The Texas Electric Railroad built the square substation in 1913 and the Interurban Station in 1918. The Interurban was an electric railroad with passenger and freight service from Waco, through Hillsboro, Waxahachie, Dallas, and Sherman to Denison. The Interurban line entered Hillsboro in 1913 with the track going down the center of Waco Street, then called Main Street. The Interurban ceased service in the late 1940s.
