J. Levy Opera House

The Opera House was built in 1894 by Julius Levy to house “The Hillsboro Opera House Company” after a charter was granted that same year. The Opera House was constructed of brick with modern architecture and consisted of three floors. The second and third floors had a separate entrance. Wide steps led up from the street floor to the second floor, and another flight of steps led up to the third floor wher ethe opera and other performances were held. With the popularity of movie theaters in Hillsboro, patronage declined and the opera company closed.
